I have never been to the Keg and was never persuaded to because I was never a fan of chain restaurants such as Milestone, Cactus or The Keg. Therefore when we found coupons to go, I thought “Why not? Might as well finally give it a try.” We went to the one in Richmond and when I went into The Keg, they should have gave us flash lights before taking us to our seats. I couldn’t see where I was going because the restaurant was so dim. We got a sofa seat right where the servers were busily running around so service was attentive.
Our coupon gave us each a free bowl of French Onion Soup. A thick layer of cheese was baked on top of it and I think it was blue cheese or brie, which I am not a fan of. The taste was way too salty and the soup was incredibly oily. I couldn’t get finish it.
I wasn’t sure what to order at The Keg, but since it is a steakhouse, I decided to order the Sirloin Oscar (CAD32) with shrimps, scallops, asparagus, yellow peppers and Bearnaise sauce. The Bearnaise sauce was delicious, creamy and herbed but I was extremely disappointed with how tiny the scallops and shrimps were. The shrimps were…ridiculously small and I think they were frozen shrimps to start with. The asparagus was juicy and just cooked perfectly so at least the vegetable part of dinner was good. The steak was cooked to medium rare and honestly, it was just mediocre.
