Summer time is when I would actually enjoy a Mexican dinner. Something about Mexican food during fall or winter doesn’t seem quite fitting to me. Since I did try and enjoy La Mezcaleria last year, I wanted to try out their sister restaurant on Cambie. Jacky and I walked in thinking that four tacos wouldn’t fill us, but we were so wrong.
For all of you who don’t use Foursquare, here’s a reason why you should. I checked in on Foursquare at La Taqueria and they had a Foursquare special – free Horchata. Once in awhile if you are lucky, some restaurants or shops have special offers or discounts just for Foursquare users.
I had the Asada – grilled AAA flank beef, Tinga de Pollo – chicken with chorizo in chipotle tomato sauce, Mexican cheese and sour cream, Pescado – Zarandeado fish with chipotle mayo, radish and pepitas and Al Pastor – pork marinate in chilli and pineapple. Noshing on these little tacos was a oily and juicy mess with bits and parts falling out from the other end. I wasn’t too fond with the Pescado from the texture of the fish that didn’t mesh well with the taco. The Asada was piquant and exploding with beefy flavours – it was probably my favourite one. Tinga de Pollo needed a bit more chipotle tomato sauce and the Al Pastor was just average to me.
Jacky was indifferent so the only taco he had that was different than mine was the Carnitas – pork confit and pickled red onions. Actually, Jacky asked the server to help him choose. His only requirement was that he wanted to try all of the protein in the four tacos. I regret not getting the Carnitas because I love pickled onions but both of us liked Asada the most.
